Rodents and other wildlife

Rats gnaw through plastic, wire, wood and even metal and can be the cause of lots of damage to property, breed very quickly and spread disease. If you do see a rat in your property, it is unlikely to be alone and you may have a rat problem.

Signs you may have a rat problem

Generally, rats are active at night, so it is unusual to see them in daylight. However, there are a number of ways to detect if you have rats in your home or business.

  • Droppings - Rat droppings are darks brown and approximately the size of a grain of rice. They are quite easy to spot as they are commonly found in concentrated places.

  • Bite Marks - Rats gnaw on objects to file their teeth down as rats' teeth never stop growing. Keep an eye out for teeth marks on anything from wire, wood or even concrete.

  • Listen for movement - As rats are nocturnal you may hear them moving around in walls and under floorboards if they are in your home.
